What do you see in this picture?
Are they twins?
If they aren’t, which one is her baby?
Was one of the crias abandoned and this mom is taking care of both?
I think this is one of the most interesting things I’ve seen with our alpacas…. atleast in the nursery. The truth is: Shadow is the mom – that goes without saying. The brown cria is actually her baby. The fawn cria has a mom who hasn’t abandoned her and from whom she nurses daily. She is a clever little thing in that she waits until she sees Calhoun nursing and slowly sneaks up and gets next to him so that she can have a snack, too. Most of the time Shadow doesn’t seem to notice that Madison has moved in on Calhoun, but sometimes Shadow notices what is going on and just walks away. Most of the time Madison and Calhoun both get a little of the good stuff.
Fun to watch and see how long it takes Shadow to notice what’s going on!
Now I am beginning to wonder if Madison will pine away for two moms when she is weaned! I guess we will cross that bridge when we get to it…

Twins, separated at conception! More evidence that Madison is “hot stuff.”
